THE BIRTH PLACE OF MATA SITA

SITAMARHI 


Sitamarhi is a sacred place in Hindu mythology. It’s history goes back to Treta Yug. Sita, the wife of Lord Rama sprang to life out of an earthern pot, when Raja Janak was ploughing the field somewhere near Sitamarhi to impress upon Lord Indra for rain. Sita was kept her in a small "Madai" (local name for "hut"). Sita+Madai during the period becomes Sitamarhi.It is said that Raja Janak excavated a tank at the place where Sita emerged and after her marriage set up the stone figures of Rama, Sita and Lakshman to mark the site. The town however contains no relics of archaeological interest.
             Famous for many houses of religious and historical importance, Mithila region is Spread over a large area of North Bihar. also, a large  part of the neighboring country Nepal Is also  associated with  Maithili culture. it is believed that Mata Sita was born in this region in Treta Yuga.This region  of Mata Sita is famous all over the world but there are many regilious and historical place in this area, which you must know about

JANAKPUR DHAM 



It is believed that it was the capital of Mithila in the Treta Yuga. Mother Sita's Father Maharaja Janak ruled here. Lord Rama was married to Sita here janakpur is a major Pilgrimage Center for Hindus in Nepal.

RAJNAGAR DARBHANGA


It has been the old capital of the princely state of Darbhanga The ruins of the old Palaces of Darbhanga Maharaj are seen to speak about the historical prosperity of the place even today. However , the places here is now in ruins due to overlooking. it is located in Madhubani at Bihar. 

DARBHANGA FORT



When Darbhanga Maharaj removed his capital from Rajnagar , he built a fort and several palaces in Darbhanga. This fort made of red bricks is one of the few attractive forts in the country.This fort houses Narguna Palaces , Anandbagh Palace and Bela Mahal.  

BISFI POET



Madhubani is the birthplace of Bisfi Poet Kokil Vidyapati Located in the district. He composed many texts and songs in Sanskrit and Maithili here. It is said thet , overwhelmed by the devotion of Vidyapati , Lord Shankar came to the place to make a chakari with him. 

PUNORA DHAM 



Punora dham is situated in Sitamarhi district of Bihar , This Dham is main site of Mother Sita. Wile driving the plow, King Janak had found Sita at this place. 

 BALLIRAJGARH


There is an ancient fort and stronghold of Ballirajgarh in the Babubarhi block of Madhubani District. It is a site protected by the Archaeological Survey of Indian and is known as Raja Bali's Stronghold. Three thousand year old material was found in the excavation done here in five stages.

AHILYA PLACE   



Ahilya place is located in the district of Darbhanga district. it is believed that Ahilya became a stone due to the curse of her husband Gautam, then it was here that she was saved by the touch of the feet of Lord Rama. Tulsidas in Ramcharit Manas and Valmiki in Ramayana have described this land as quite sacred. Brahmapur located some distance away from here is a place associated with Gautam Rishi. It is  part of the Ramayana Circuit being developed by the government of India.

UCHAITH BHAGWATI MANDIR 



In the village of Benipatti in Madhubani district, there is a temple of Siddhapeetha Uchaith Bhagwati. It has historical significance. It is believed that here, Kalidas was given a boon by mother Kali and only after that he became famous as a great poet. This place is also known for tantra cultivation.

MATA SHYAM KALI MANDIR



There is a grand temple of Mother Kali in the courtyard of Lalit Narayan Mithila University in Darbhanga city of Bihar. It is known as Shyama Kali Mandir. It is built on the pyre of Maharaja Rameshwar Singh at the crematorium ghat and is an unusual occurrence in itself .The temple was founded in 1933 by Maharaj Kameshwar Singh of Darbhanga.


By Plane

The airport is in Patna , 120 km away (but Janakpur in Nepal is the nearest airport at 56 km away but has daily flights from Kathmandu only). Patna airport is serviced by major domestic airlines like Indian and Air Deccan. There are direct flights to Delhi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Kathmandu and Varanasi from Patna airport.

By Train

There are direct trains from Darbhanga Muzaffarpur and Narkatiaganj. which connects further to Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Pune, Patna and many other cities in the country and there are two direct trains to Delhi and two for Kolkata.

By Bus

Sitamarhi is on the National Highway map of India with NH 77 and NH 104 connecting it with other parts of the country. There are buses every 10 minutes for Patna (4.5-5 hrs) and Muzaffarpur. 

Get Around

Most reliable and easily available local transport is cycle rickshaw. You can also get shared three-Wheelers and buses from the railway and bus terminal. Sitamarhi is a small city and you can easily walk around and see places of attraction.

  • Janaki Temple, (About 1.5 Kms. Off he railway station and the bus stand, this is the place of Madai (Hut), where the King Janak kept Sita for few days after her emergence from the earth at nearby Punaura. Janaki-Kund is adjacent south of the temple.). 

  • Janaki Temple, Punaura, (5 km west of Sitamarhi). This is about 5 Kms. west of Sitamarhi. This place has the honour of being the birth place of Sita.
  • Deokuli (Dhekuli), (19 km west of Sitamarhi town).  
  • Haleshwar Sthan, (3 km nothwest of Sitamarhi). 
  • Panth-Pakar, (8 km northeast of Sitamarhi).  
  • Bodhayan-Sar.  
  • Baghi Math, (7 km northwest of Sitamarhi).  
  • Pupri.  
  • Goraul Sharif.  
  • Shukeshwar Sthan.  
  • Sabhagachhi Sasaula, (20 km west of Sitamarhi).  
  • Sujatpur: 8 kms from Pupri on madhwapur road. A proposed girl's high school is coming up. Has one of the oldest middle schools in Bihar. Choraut is 5 kms from here.
  • Pipra Khurd : 18n km Norh East to sitamarhi. It is place where maximum public listening BBC News and having maximum educated people.
