Kishanganj

Kishanganj distric is one the districts of Bihar state, India, and Kishanganj town is the administrative headquarter of this district. Kishanganj district is a part of the Purnia division.

History
During the period of Khagada Nawab, Mohammad Fakiruddin, one hindu saint arrived, he was tired and wanted to rest at this place, but when he heard that this place name is Alamganj, the river name is Ramzan and the Jamindar name is Fakiruddin, he refused  to enter at Alamganj. After that the Nawab decided and announced some protion from Kishanganj Gudri to Ramzan pool gandhi ghat as Krishna - Kunj. As time passed by the name gets converted to present KISHANGANJ.

During Mugal period Kishanganj district was the part of Nepal and was known as Nepalgarh. Mugal Emperor Shah Alam appointed Mohammad Raza at Surajapur for administration. Md. Raza  captured the fort of Nepalganj and name gets shifted to Khagara.  The Historical "KHAGARA MELA" is held every year at Khagara, Kishanganj.

Kishanganj was the old and important Sub- division of Purnea. After the long and hard struggle of 17 years from people of Kishanganj including social workers. politicians, Journalist, bussinessman's , Farmers etc. The Kishanganj district came into existence on 14th january 1990.

Take a  drive on Kishanganj Takurganj road, as the road hit Belwa, you will across exciting vistas offered by the tea gardens.

Bagalbari Ghat is another popular picnic spot about 8km away from the district headquarters on Kishanganj - Bahadurganj Road.

Mahananda River one of the biggest rivers of india, Mahananda river divides the district into two parts. Mahananda River is also referred as the ' sorrow of Kishanganj ", because the river washes away crop and many village during monsoon. However, The river has several good spot, where you can go for picnic and enjoy some good time.

Kishanganj is incomplete without mentioning Khagra Mela. An aanual fair, Khagra Mela was once considered one of the biggest fairs of Bihar and the country as well. Khagra Mela is inaugurated every year on january 26 and the fair goes for one month till February end. Cattles are major attraction of the fair goes for one months till February end. Cattles are major attraction of the fair, besides the shops dealing in clothes, toys, bangles, estables add more charm. Most of the shops sell the items in fixed prices fondly called, Har Ek Maal'.

Ruidhasa Maidan, a historic ground is the land mark of kishanganj district. The massive ground is the venue of political affairs in Kishanganj. During election time the ground turn into a virtual fair. Plitical leaders address the people from a high stage and try to convince them. Ruidhasa Maidan is visited by many prominent political leaders including Rajiv Gandhi, M j Akbar, Lalu Prasad Yadav, Nitish Kumar and Shatrughan Sinha.

Built  in the memory of martyrs  of Kargil war, Kargil Park is a new park in Kishanganj. The park is located close to historic Ruidhasa market and looking very beautiful inside. Visit the park in the evening, it will certainly refresh your mind and body. Like Nehru Park, This park has also flowering plants, herbs and shrubs. Kargil Park is more serene than Nehru park, because of its strategic location, far from hustle and bustle of city.

Although the park is lagging behind in basic amenities, but you will surely enjoy the serene environs and wonderful sight of colourful flowers and plants. The massive statue of Lord Buddha inside the park is the prime attraction.  In addition the park offers excellent  entertainment options for children.
